Breast Ultrasound

A breast ultrasound uses sound waves to create an image of the tissue inside the breast. Because the ultrasound uses sound waves, there is no radiation exposure to the patient.

What to Expect During the Exam

You will be asked to undress from the waist up and wear a hospital gown. During the exam, an ultrasound technologist will apply warm gel to the breast. The tech will use a transducer or small wand to move across the breast to obtain the images needed. The exam takes approximately 30 minutes.

Exam Instructions

Please wear a two-piece outfit as you will be asked to undress from the waist up.
