Aultman is committed to providing 24-hour trauma care to the surrounding counties. The American College of Surgeons has recently reverified Aultman as a Level II Trauma Center, accredited through October 2023, and verified to meet the standards for excellence in trauma care. Aultman has specially trained, board-certified trauma surgeons on call 24 hours a day. As a Level II facility, Aultman provides definitive care for injured patients and is committed to trauma education and prevention.

Emergency departments triage (sort) patients based on their need for care. All patients are important and will be seen, but some require care more quickly than others. When you are in the emergency room, please let staff know if your symptoms change.

Chest pain is the most common problem that brings patients to the Aultman Emergency Department. The Aultman Chest Pain Center, made up of six private rooms, is located directly inside the emergency department. This unit was designed to quickly assess patients with chest pain using advanced technology and the latest diagnostic techniques. Our advanced heart catheterization lab is located right next door, if immediate intervention is required. This eliminates extra travel time and allows for prompt emergency treatment in the safest, best-equipped environment. In addition to being cared for by emergency physicians, nuclear radiologists and cardiologists, the unit is staffed with specially trained coronary-care nurses. Thanks to a well-defined protocol developed by the chest pain center, patients no longer have to spend 2-3 days in the hospital for testing, to rule out a cardiac event. We show pride in our commitment to the prompt diagnosis and treatment of chest pain.

Aultman Hospital has received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® Gold Receiving Quality Achievement Award. As a “STEMI Receiving Hospital,” Aultman Hospital meets high standards of performance in quick and appropriate treatment of STEMI patients. Time is definitely the most critical component when dealing with STEMI patients. The STEMI treatment time is measured from the moment a patient has contact with medical personnel to the time the blockage is cleared with a balloon – this is coined “door-to-balloon” or “D2B time.” The American College of Cardiology has a recommended D2B time of 90 minutes. At Aultman, the average time is just 63 minutes.

Aultman Hospital cares for more than 500 stroke patients each year. We are a Primary Stroke Center, certified by The Joint Commission. We were the first hospital in Stark County to earn certification – and the 13th in the state of Ohio. Achievement of the Joint Commission certification signifies that Aultman Hospital provides the critical elements to achieve long-term success in improving stroke outcomes. It is the best signal to our community that the care we provide is effectively managed to meet the unique and specialized needs of stroke patients.

If you have experienced violence and need immediate assistance, please call 911 or go to your local emergency room or urgent care. The Aultman Hospital Serenity Program has specially trained nurses who provide safe, confidential care for:

  • Domestic Violence/Interpersonal Violence/Dating Violence
  • Elder Abuse
  • Human Trafficking
  • Non-fatal Strangulation (pressure applied to the neck)
  • Sexual Assault

Serenity nurses are available at Aultman emergency departments 24 hours a day. If you need resources, or suspect someone you love needs help, please click here or call 330-363-0669.

In accordance with House Bill 93, the Aultman Emergency Department follows guidelines for pain management that are safe and appropriate.
