What is the Aultman Student Nurse Internship Program?
This is an exciting opportunity for student nurses who are in their final semester and enrolling in a nursing course requiring preceptorship. An internship is a unique work experience offered to gain relevant skills and experience in your area of study. Aultman values the concept “learning never ends.” Starting your career with Aultman as a student nurse intern provides the opportunity to learn from the experienced nursing staff, build lasting relationships and secure employment with the largest healthcare employer in the local area.
Will an intern get to choose their experience area?
We will do everything we can to ensure that significant consideration will be placed on internship preference. Many factors go into determining the unit the student can be placed on. We ask that students choose the top 3 areas of interest. Aultman will provide shadowing opportunities which will include meeting the managers of those areas, along with the teams. Based on their availability and need, the student will be placed in one of their areas of preference.
What compensation is offered as a student nurse intern?
This program is unique, as it pays for clinical hours while precepting, provides the opportunity for a sign-on bonus with commitment to continue work at Aultman as an RN, and will pay a competitive hourly wage. Aultman Human Resources will discuss compensation details with candidates.
How long is the work commitment after precepting is complete?
Upon passing NCLEX and obtaining licensure, participants will have the opportunity to sign a work commitment of 2 years and transition to RN within the department of internship. Eligibility for transfer to a different unit would be after 6 months of employment.
Do precepting hours count as clinical hours?
The student nurse internship hours will count as precepting hours. Exceptions would include: A second nursing course (mental health or maternal child). This may require clinical hours that are not included as precepting hours.
How many precepting hours are required?
Precepting hours are determined by each nursing program to meet curriculum requirements.
What does the onboarding process look like?
- Application and interview process.
- Complete all pre-boarding requirements.
- Attend new colleague orientation & Nurse Academy.
What role will a student nurse intern be performing once following preceptorship?
Following preceptorship, the intern will fill a Patient Care Technician or Nurse Aide position that is casual status (16 hours/month). Once the intern has passed the NCLEX, he/she is offered the opportunity to transition to a part-time or full-time RN position on the unit of participation with sign-on work commitment.
