Healthcare Observations
Observation is an opportunity for learning acquired by closely observing staff, allied health professionals, and other clinicians in their patient care duties. Observers will gain exposure to and learn about situations and working conditions within the healthcare field.
Per our policy, we are unable to provide direct, hands-on learning during an observation experience; this opportunity will involve participation in the form of observational-based learning only. To meet specific criteria for a class, we understand that students participating in an observation for educational purposes may be required to complete a certain number of observation hours in a set amount of time. The duration of the observation must be agreed upon by both parties (the observer and the Aultman team member) and cannot exceed your annual valid TB test. Interested individuals must submit an application and meet all requirements before observing with the Aultman team member. Program coordinators for high school groups must work with the Student Experiences Specialist to set up an experience.
- High school juniors and seniors – must be at least 16 years old
- *Aultman Alliance requires individuals to be 18 years of age
- Currently enrolled college students
- Individuals interested in a second career
Aultman Health System utilizes ACEMAPP, a student onboarding platform for all student experiences.
Requirements:
- Process is required for all employees and external students.
- All students must have profiles in ACEMAPP.
- Students must complete all required steps to begin their observation experience.
Application Steps:
ACEMAPP
Student Profile Account
- If you already have an ACEMAPP account, login at ACEMAPP.
- If you do not yet have an account, register at Registration | ACEMAPP.
- Register as a “Professional/General Member”
Register for Observation Experience.
- Under products select “Collaboration.”
- Public Applications
- Search for “Aultman Health Foundation” to narrow down the available applications.
- Choose “Aultman Health Foundation Observation Application” by selecting the blue “info” button & “Apply.”
Requirements to Submit in ACEMAPP
- TB Documentation: TB testing is required for all student experiences and is done at the expense of the student; this requirement is not able to be waived. TB testing can be completed at a primary care physician’s office, the health department, occupational medicine provider (i.e. AultWorks) or a college/university health services department. For more information, please visit this link.
- Flu Documentation: Flu season restriction is from Nov. 1 – March 31 annually, unless extended by the hospital executive team. During that timeframe, all participating in student experiences are to either have a flu shot or must submit a flu waiver in ACEMAPP. If you waive the flu shot, a mask must be worn in patient care areas during your experience.
- COVID 19 Vaccination Documentation: Aultman Health System is required to report monthly COVID-19 vaccine data to CMS. Due to this requirement, we must know the vaccination status of all students and instructors until further notice. You can submit your vaccine information or decline it by filling out a declination form in ACEMAPP.
Please complete all paperwork at least 2 weeks prior to your requested start date for processing. Applications and documentation not received in a timely manner could result in the delay of a student experience. Applications will be processed in the order that they are received and could require longer processing time if an observation experience has not already been coordinated by the student.
You will receive an email once your application has been reviewed by the Aultman Health System Student Experiences team. If you have any questions regarding your application, please contact the ACEMAPP support team at 844-223-4292 or email Student Experiences at studentexperiences@aultman.com.
