The physicians and nurses at Aultman understand both the immediate and long-term effects trauma has on patients and how that can impact their lives. That is why Aultman Serenity Program has specially trained nurses known as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) or Forensic Nurse Examiners (FNE). 

We take care to maintain our patients' safety, and all exams are completely confidential. Treatment is patient-centered, ensuring we maintain the patient’s dignity and allowing them to regain control over the experience.

Our nurses have received specialized training for:

• Caring for people who have experienced violence or abuse.
• Performing medical forensic examinations.
• Giving courtroom testimony. 

Serenity nurses can care for patients aged 13 and over when it pertains to sexual assault. For patients 12 and under, Serenity nurses will conduct appropriate screening and give referral options to forensic nurse examiners with pediatric training. Patients aged 12 and under should consider seeking treatment at a Child Advocacy Center or at Akron Children’s Hospital.
