NICU
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
If your baby arrives prematurely or has other serious complications, the Akron Children's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Aultman Hospital provides specialized care for premature and high-risk babies.
The NICU offers:
- Neonatologists, nurses and nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists and nutritionists who are all specially trained to care for pre-term babies.
- 25 private patient rooms, so you can stay with and care for your baby. The rooms feature noise-reducing materials and individual lighting and heating controls, to provide a soothing atmosphere for your newborn.
- A family waiting room complete with a cozy fireplace, children's play area and computer with Internet access.
- Programs and techniques to help you learn how to care for your newborn.
Neonatal Follow-up Program
The Neonatal Follow-up Program addresses the special needs of your NICU baby and family. Medical specialists will periodically analyze your child's growth and development, furnishing the evaluation results to your pediatrician or primary care physician. The first follow-up visit will be held when your child is three months of age and will continue until age 3. For more information about the Neonatal Follow-up Program, call 330-363-2929.
Contact Us
The NICU is on the fourth floor of the Aultman Birth Center, located at Sixth Street and Bedford Avenue. To reach the NICU by phone, call 330-363-5433 or toll-free at 1-800-262-0333.
