2024 Class Inducted into the Aultman Hippocrates Honor Society
CANTON, Ohio (Sept. 26, 2024) – Aultman recently honored three local physicians with induction into the Hippocrates Honor Society. This “lifetime achievement” award, created by the Aultman Medical Staff, recognizes physicians who exemplify the qualities of excellence, compassion, integrity and leadership. To learn more about the 2024 inductees and view videos from their patients, colleagues and family members, go to aultman.org/hippocrates.
Congratulations to the 2024 Hippocrates Honor Society inductees:
Anthony Degenhard, D.O., Nephrology
Dr. Degenhard earned his medical degree from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Summa Health, followed by a fellowship in nephrology with the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 2004. He joined the medical staff of both Aultman Hospital and Aultman Alliance Community Hospital in 2004, followed by Aultman Orrville Hospital in 2013.
In his leadership roles, Dr. Degenhard led initiatives to focus on provider wellness by creating and promoting activities that celebrate physician accomplishments. In addition, he founded the FunDocs initiative, which focused on planning social events to allow physicians time to socialize, relax and reduce burnout.
Dr. Degenhard also was a key driver of an initiative to improve physician communication, with the ultimate goal of providing optimal care for patients. In 2012, Dr. Degenhard was presented with the Physician Leadership Award by the medical staff president.
Through the years, Dr. Degenhard has served the community in many different volunteer roles with the Boy Scouts of America, the Foundation for Community Betterment and the Canton Ex-Newsboys Association.
Charles Milligan, D.O., Family Medicine
Dr. Milligan earned his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at Doctors Hospital (Affinity) in Massillon. He spent his 39-year medical career serving Orrville and surrounding communities as part of the medical staff of Aultman Orrville Hospital.
From 1992 – 2001 and again from 2007 – 2013, Dr. Milligan served on the Orrville Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, becoming a member of the Board Executive Committee in the roles of treasurer, secretary, vice chair and chair. He also held leadership roles on the medical staff, serving as medical staff president in 1998. Dr. Milligan was also prominently involved in local and state medical activities, serving as president of the Ohio Osteopathic Association in 2019-20.
As a board-certified family practitioner, Dr. Milligan delivered many babies at Aultman Orrville Hospital. He was instrumental in supporting the hospital’s newborn care coverage, at times single-handedly supporting this program, along with onboarding new newborn care providers. He also mentored numerous medical students and residents throughout his career.
Dr. Milligan is well known for his devotion to the community. For many years, he served as team physician for area high school sports teams. He has also helped strengthen the community through his involvement in the Lions Club. After Dr. Milligan retired, the staff of Aultman Orrville Hospital dedicated the hospital’s labor and delivery room to him.
Allison Oprandi, M.D., Family Medicine
Dr. Oprandi earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. She began her career with Aultman in 1987 as a resident in the Family Medicine program.
Soon after she completed her residency, Dr. Oprandi returned to the Aultman Family Medicine Residency Program, serving as a faculty member and leader from 1989 – 2009. She earned the program’s Distinguished Faculty Award in 2003. At Northeast Ohio Medical University, she has served as clinical professor of family and community medicine since 2003.
As a member of the Aultman medical staff, Dr. Oprandi has held a number of positions at Aultman Hospital, including physician advisor for utilization management, medical director for utilization management and clinical documentation improvement, as well as chief medical officer. In 2004, she received a Golden Apple (now called Keys to Success) award for her contributions to the medical staff.
Because of her passion for patient-centered care, Dr. Oprandi was instrumental in the formation of the Integrated Health Collaborative (IHC), a network of physicians who are committed to improving the quality of healthcare by providing a patient-centered approach, sharing information, streamlining care and lowering costs. Dr. Oprandi has been chief executive officer of the IHC since 2014.
Since 2002, she has served on the Board of Trustees for the Margaret B. Shipley Child Health Clinic, Inc. In that role, Dr. Oprandi has been instrumental in development, procurement of grant funding and implementation of mentoring programs for families at risk for parenting problems, child abuse or neglect.
