ALLIANCE, Ohio (July 11, 2025) — Aultman Alliance Community Hospital recently honored a patient by naming new imaging equipment after her.

The first patient scanned by the new combined PET/CT camera was Brenda Jewell, and the suite housing the updated equipment was named ‘Jewell’ in her honor during a ceremony on Thursday, June 26. Jewell received the first nuclear bone scan with the new equipment and made the experience memorable by sharing her story of surviving breast cancer with the technologists.

In spring 2025, the imaging department at Aultman Alliance Community Hospital received a new GE Nuclear Medicine 850 SPECT CT unit through a generous donation from the Alliance Community Health Foundation. Single-photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) scans use a radioactive substance and special camera to create 3D images. CT scans use X-rays to create cross-sectional images of the body. This new machine provides clear images and combines functional information from NM SPECT imaging and anatomical information from CT imaging.

The technologists at Aultman Alliance Community Hospital were trained on the new equipment to provide radiologists with the most detailed images from the scans. These improved images will allow for easier detection and diagnosis of diseases.
