Aultman ‘Give it Up’ Program Offers Tobacco Cessation Help, from Vaping Teens to Longtime Cigarette Smokers
CANTON, Ohio (Jan. 21, 2020) – Aultman’s “Give it Up” tobacco cessation program has a path for all tobacco users who want to quit.
Led by certified tobacco treatment specialists, Aultman offers two Give it Up options – the adult class and the adolescent class.
The adult program is designed for smokers, chewers and vapers who want to quit tobacco use. The six-week program meets once a week for one hour at Aultman Hospital, where participants develop a plan to quit, learn how handle withdrawal symptoms and other barriers to quitting, discuss strategies and ideas with others who are also trying to quit and learn the keys to long-term success, all in a small-group setting. Participants can also gain access to up to four weeks of free nicotine patches to help them begin their journey.
The Give it Up program geared for adolescents includes two 45-minute group sessions held two weeks apart. This program helps teens verbalize their personal risks and the actions they can take to quit, prepare for a tobacco-free lifestyle, understand the long-term effects of smoking or vaping and learn current information about vaping concerns and the hazards of nicotine, especially in the developing adolescent brain.
Both programs are free to the public. To learn more or sign up for the adult Give it Up class, go to Aultman.org/giveitup. To learn more or sign up for the teen program, go to Aultman.org/teentobacco.
