Robot-Assisted Surgery

Experienced Surgeons. Excellent Outcomes.

Aultman's robot-assisted surgery program is home to some of the most experienced robotic surgeons in the region. With five da Vinci Xi surgical robots across Aultman Health System, Aultman performs more robot-assisted surgical procedures than anyone else in our region.

Robot-assisted surgery is performed by a surgeon – not a robot. The equipment is a tool that allows surgeons to perform complex procedures laparoscopically with more precision than ever before.

Compared with traditional open surgery, robot-assisted surgery requires significantly smaller incisions. The potential benefits for patients include:

  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Minimal blood loss
  • Lower risk of complications
  • Less scarring
  • Fast recovery time
  • Reduced pain
  • Less need for narcotic medication

Using a da Vinci robot, the surgeon makes a few small incisions in the abdomen using long, thin instruments and a tiny camera. The camera sends images to a video monitor in the operating room to guide your surgeon during the operation.

The robot is designed to provide surgeons with enhanced capabilities, including high-definition 3D vision and a magnified view. Your doctor controls the robot, which translates his or her hand movements into smaller, precise movements of tiny instruments inside your body. The robot cannot act on its own. Surgery is performed entirely by your doctor.

Our experienced physicians have met rigorous criteria demonstrating excellent outcomes and high patient satisfaction.

Talk to your doctor to decide if robot-assisted surgery is right for you.
