Additional Curriculum

The Aultman Family Medicine Residency curriculum is based on the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Core Educational Guidelines for Family Medicine Residents, the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) program requirements.

All residents and faculty have input into the curriculum, which provides the skills and training needed for family physicians of the future.

  • Dedicated weekly academic half days
  • Outside speakers
  • Didactics, Journal Club and Morbidity and Mortality 
  • Required resident presentations (PGY-2 and PGY-3)
  • Resident wellness activities
  • Weekly radiology rounds
  • Point-of-care ultrasound training (POCUS)
  • Osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM)
  • Optional experience for PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents (e.g. Migrant Clinic, OB-GYN Clinic, Stark County Health Department, M-2 Physical Diagnosis Lab teaching)
  • Spend one to two half days each block at physician's office/location of resident's choosing
  • Four-week elective rotation to prepare residents to organize their own practices
  • Provides background in managed care organizations, risk management, marketing, contracts, malpractice insurance and financial planning
  • Conferences are also held throughout the three years
