Aultman Family Medicine Residency Program

Aultman Family Medicine Residency Mission Statement:
To promote an environment of intellectual curiosity that produces exceptional family physicians who provide comprehensive, evidence-based, compassionate patient-centered care.

Thank you for your interest in the Aultman Family Medicine Residency Program. We are excited to share our program with you. We have a 50-year history of graduating competent and compassionate family medicine physicians who have a strong presence in our local community and serve patients throughout our country and internationally.

The Aultman family medicine residency is a 7-7-7 complement, accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Aultman is a 1,032-bed hospital system serving Stark and surrounding counties that has achieved national recognition for our outstanding clinical care. The Aultman Family Medicine Residency Program is part of a large medical education department with six residencies and two fellowship programs.

The variety of educational experiences in the Aultman Family Medicine Residency Program prepares our residents to practice in any setting they choose. The program balances strong inpatient service with comprehensive care in the outpatient setting.

Starting in PGY-1 year, Aultman family medicine residents care for their own panel of patients in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), conveniently located next to the hospital.

Residents provide comprehensive chronic care management in a team-based setting. Additionally, they perform procedures including joint injections, skin procedures, gynecological care, osteopathic manipulation therapy (OMT) and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS).

The Aultman Family Medicine Residency Program provides excellent care across our community. We believe that every person deserves to receive evidence-based and compassionate care. Residents and faculty regularly provide preventive care at the Stark County Health Department. We also work at the Hartville Migrant Clinic, providing comprehensive primary care for uninsured individuals.

Aultman Family Medicine Residency Program faculty have vast experience and are dedicated to educating our residents.

We have weekly, time-protected half-day didactics. In addition to core lectures, the program includes a variety of hands-on experiences including procedural and POCUS skill-based sessions, quality-improvement and research sessions and behavioral science discussions.

Residents are well prepared to take their American Board of Family Medicine board exams at the end of their PGY-3 year. We are proud of our 100% board passage rate over the past 12 years. The Aultman Family Medicine Residency Program’s board score average is one of the highest in Ohio.

The Aultman Family Medicine Residency Program integrates wellness activities regularly into formal sessions and our yearly retreat. Our behavioral science faculty leads regular Balint groups that enhance our ability to reflect on patient-physician interactions. We also hold informal gatherings and celebrations throughout the year.

With the Aultman Family Medicine Residency program’s strong curriculum foundation and our comprehensive clinical care experiences, we will prepare you to be an excellent family medicine physician. I look forward to meeting you and sharing with you all the great things we have to offer.
