I was born in Baghdad, Iraq, and grew up in several countries before moving to Canada. I attended McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and earned a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology. I worked as a kinesiologist before starting my medical school journey at Saba University School of Medicine. My interest in family medicine started at a younger age, as I grew up with a mom in family medicine, which allowed me to appreciate the relationships she developed with her patients and their families and the care she provided for our community. This interest further grew throughout my clinical clerkships, as I enjoyed several aspects of many specialties, and especially my family medicine electives. I had heard only positive things from prior students who had rotated at Aultman for their family medicine elective. After completing my rotation at Aultman, I can confidently agree with everyone else’s opinion. The program has created a warm, friendly and non-judgmental environment that encourages you to learn and grow. When I’m not at the hospital, I do enjoy staying active, whether it’s working out, hiking or volleyball. I also love exploring new cities, trying new foods (but Chipotle will always have my heart), as well as spending time with Netflix.
