M4/Subinternships
Thank you for your interest in an obstetrics and gynecology M4/Subinternship medical student elective. The Aultman M4/Subinternship is specifically for a fourth-year medical student for a period of four weeks. The experience includes one week of obstetrics, one week of gynecology, one week of clinic and one week of night float. Subspecialty electives are available, schedule permitting, after successful completion of an obstetrics and gynecology elective at Aultman Hospital.
M4/Subinternship medical students work hours similar to a PGY-1 in accordance with ACGME Clinical and Educational Work Hours for a total of four weeks. Time off may be requested prior to starting the elective. The OB-GYN admissions team first needs to review and approve your application. At this time, limited electives are available to U.S. medical students and students from international medical schools with an affiliation agreement (American University of the Caribbean, Ross, and Saba).
The 2024-2025 electives are full.
Applications for the M4/Subinternship for the 2025-2026 academic year will open at the beginning of March 2025. Available months to serve in the Subinternship are:
- August 2025
- September 2025
- October 2025
- November 2025
- December 2025
- January 2026
- February 2026
To apply for the Aultman M4/Subinternship, please visit the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) website.

- Step 2 CS = first time pass
- COMLEX:
- Level 1 = first time pass
- Level 2 CE = minimum 500 & first time pass
- Level 2 PE = first time pass
If you have taken both USMLE and COMLEX, you must meet the minimum for both.
If your application receives approval, Medical Education must have the following:
- Proof of malpractice coverage by your medical school
- Letter from your medical school stating you are a medical student in good standing who has approval for this elective
- Health record
- Background check
Does the program offer observerships, shadowing, attendance at grand rounds or didactics?
- Due to the high number of learners, this can't be offered.
Does the program offer two-week electives?
- The OB-GYN program offers only four-week electives.
Does an M4/Sub-internship elective guarantee an interview will be offered?
- To be eligible for an invitation to interview, individuals must meet all score requirements listed in "How to Apply."
