In 2008, Dr. Brenda Prince, an emergency room physician, saw patients using the emergency room for routine patient care and medication refills. She decided there should be a better way to help patients manage their health.

This led Dr. Prince and other healthcare professionals to start Tuscarawas Clinic for the Working Uninsured (TCWU). The non-profit organization provides free healthcare to employed, uninsured adults in Tuscarawas County who fall below 200% of the federal poverty level. The clinic also offers health education, prescription and financial assistance and access to social services.

In 2021, a grant from The Aultman Foundation (TAF) supported the clinic. That year, they served 120 active patients through 379 visits. The clinic continues to increase awareness about services and to help patients manage conditions, like diabetes and hypertension.

TAF selected TCWU to receive the 2022 Vicki Haines Legacy Award. The Foundation was inspired by the clinic’s commitment to increase access to healthcare for Tuscarawas County residents.When accepting the award in January 2023, Executive Director Pat Warther shared, “The Tuscarawas Clinic for the Working Uninsured is honored to have received The Vicki Haines Legacy Award. This award recognizes the clinic for its work and challenges us to continue with the same determination and passion as Vicki Haines.”

The Aultman Foundation bestows the recognition annually to celebrate Vicki’s valuable years of leadership and community service throughout Tuscarawas, Stark, Wayne, Holmes and Carroll Counties.
