Recipe of the Month: Build a Bowl

These bowls are easy, healthy and can be served hot or cold. For this one, the directions are first … as the ingredients are up to you and your taste buds! We have, however, offered some great suggestions below. Mix and match your way to a nutritious and delicious meal!

DIRECTIONS

Layer the following in a bowl:

  1. ¾ cup of grain

  2. 3 oz. of protein

  3. Several vegetables

  4. 2 tbsp. cheese

  5. 2 tbsp. sauce

INGREDIENTS

  • Cooked grains or starches: potato, sweet potato, farro, quinoa, millet, brown rice or sorghum.
  • Lean proteins: chicken, salmon, eggs, lean steak, ground turkey, pork or tofu.
  • Chopped veggies: cucumber, marinated artichoke, broccoli or cauliflower, peppers, onions, tomato, sundried tomato, brussels sprouts, canned beans, vegetable noodles, cauliflower rice, romaine, mixed greens or cabbage.
  • Sauces: lemon garlic tahini, cilantro lime, lemon basil, balsamic, chipotle lime vinaigrette, avocado cilantro or chipotle ranch.
  • Cheeses: goat, cheddar, mozzarella, feta, gouda or bleu cheese.
