Apple Crisp
09/29/2026

Recipe: Apple Crisp

Did you bring home too many apples from your apple-picking adventure? Put them to good use in this sweet crisp that features oats, nuts and spices.

Apples are free of fat, sodium and cholesterol. They are a good source of vitamin C and potassium and contain about 4 grams of fiber per medium-sized apple.

Oats contain soluble fiber, which helps improve gut health, lower cholesterol and control blood sugar levels after eating.

Plus, this flavorful crisp is the perfect ending to dinner on a chilly fall night.

INGREDIENTS

Apple Base

  • 3 apples: Honeycrisp, Granny Smith or any combo
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg

Topping

  • 1 cup oats, rolled or quick
  • ½ cup almond flour
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Slice the apples. Add to a 9-inch pie dish and toss with maple syrup, cinnamon and nutmeg.

  2. Make the topping. In a large bowl, combine the oats, almond flour, chopped walnuts, chopped pecans, maple syrup, melted butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Stir until combined and crumbly.

  3. Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apples. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 25 minutes, until the topping is golden and the fruit juices are bubbling around the edges. If the topping starts to brown too quickly, just cover it with foil and keep baking until the apples are tender.
