New Years Eve

New Year's Eve Safety Tips

If you are planning to be out late this New Year’s Eve, please plan ahead. We want to make sure you can welcome in 2019 safely and get your New Year started out right! Here are some quick tips from State Farm on how to stay safe while you celebrate.

Plan your ride in advance.

On a night when so many people are out and about (and so many people are drinking), it’s crucial to have a safe ride lined up before you start to party. Don't assume you'll be able to grab a cab. Know your options in advance and make the decision between public transportation, a ridesharing service or even just carpooling with friends.

Don't leave your car overnight.

Did you know that New Year's Day is the second most active holiday for car thefts? If you must leave your car somewhere overnight, be sure it's locked. The next day, try to pick it up as early as possible.

Plan for your guests' safety.

If you're hosting a party, be sure your guests get home safely. You might even want to hire a driver for the evening to provide people a safe way to get home.

Don't use fireworks or firearms.

Often guns and fireworks make "celebratory" appearances at New Year's Eve parties. It’s clearly not usually a good idea with the rowdy holiday crowds.

Make a plan with your kids.

If your kids are older, be sure to set a reasonable curfew for their New Year's Eve festivities. If they're old enough to drive, review the dangers of driving on the holiday with them. Encourage them to stay in one location instead of party hopping.
