Aultman College Launches New Sonography Program to Meet Growing Demand in Healthcare
CANTON, Ohio (Nov. 21, 2024) – Aultman College is announcing the launch of its new Sonography program, designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the fast-growing field of medical imaging. This comprehensive program will begin taking applications for fall 2025 upon program approval by the Higher Learning Commission.
The 21-month, five-semester Sonography program offers a rigorous curriculum that combines classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experience. Students will receive training in various sonography techniques, with a focus on cardiovascular imaging. The program will be led by experienced faculty members who are experts in the field of diagnostic medical sonography.
“Launching the Sonography program reflects our commitment to providing high-quality education that meets the evolving needs of the healthcare industry,” said Dr. Jean Paddock, president of Aultman College. “Our goal is to prepare our students for successful careers in sonography, ensuring they are well equipped to contribute to patient care and the medical community.”
The program’s facilities will include advanced ultrasound equipment and simulation labs, allowing students to practice and hone their skills in a realistic clinical environment. Additionally, the college has established partnerships with local healthcare providers to offer students valuable clinical opportunities and real-world experience.
Graduates of the Sonography program will be eligible for national certification exams, enhancing their employability and career prospects. The demand for sonographers is projected to grow significantly in the coming years, with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimating a 14% increase in employment for diagnostic medical sonographers from 2022 to 2032. According to Salary.com, the average starting salary for a registered diagnostic medical sonographer in northeast Ohio is around $88,000.
“We are excited to welcome our first cohort of students and support them in their journey to become skilled sonographers,” said Dr. Theresa Benzel, dean of foundational education, health professions and distance education. “Our program is designed to foster academic excellence, clinical competence and professional growth.”
Prospective students are encouraged to visit Aultman College’s website or contact the admissions office for more information about the Sonography program.
