Aultman Offers Minority Scholarships
CANTON, Ohio (Jan. 20, 2017) – The Aultman Diversity and Inclusion Council is accepting applications for its scholarship program for minority college students. Applications will be accepted through May 1, 2017 – and recipients will be notified May 8.
The Aultman Minority Inclusion Scholarship Fund will award two scholarship recipients $2,500 each for Aultman College of Nursing and Health Sciences programs. A third scholarship will be available for a minority student attending an accredited institution for an IT-related field of study. Each scholarship recipient is eligible to reapply annually for a maximum amount of $5,000 for an associate degree and $10,000 for a bachelor’s degree.
“There’s a demographic shift taking place in our country. Minorities – people of racial and cultural ethical heritage – are projected to be the population majority by the year 2040,” said Lisa Johnson, BSN, RN, director of Aultman diversity and inclusion. “U.S. Department of Labor data indicates the increasing trend of race and ethnicity in the workforce. Corporations are realizing the key of their future success stems from pooling for diverse candidates who bring innovation and creativity.”
The Aultman Diversity and Inclusion Council – consisting of a variety of clinical and nonclinical employees – understands the importance of education. The council unanimously decided to create minority scholarship opportunities. To be considered, scholarship applicants must:
- Be a member of a racial or ethnic minority group.
- Reside in Stark, Wayne, Tuscarawas, Holmes, Carroll, Portage or Summit counties.
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5.
- Graduating senior must be entering college taking a minimum of 9 credit hours.
The scholarship forms are available HERE. Please contact Lisa Johnson at 330-363-2032 with any questions.
