Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy enables patients to perform activities of daily living across the life span. In the inpatient setting, this often involves maximizing independence with self-care tasks such as bathing and dressing.

Who provides occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy is provided by state-licensed occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants. Trained therapy aides may provide support tasks to enhance patient care and safety.

If you require occupational therapy in an outpatient facility, you can expect your occupational therapist to:

  • Ask you and/or your family about your home’s set-up and how you normally perform self-care and work-related tasks.
  • Evaluate how well you can bathe, groom or dress yourself.
  • Recommend occupational therapy treatments while you are an outpatient to address any new or worsened problems with your self-care or work/home responsibilities.
  • Make recommendations for a maintenance program to continue your rehabilitation or preserve your level of wellness after discharge.

Meet our occupational therapists:

Jessica received her bachelor’s degree in biology from John Carroll University and a master’s degree in occupational therapy from the Medical College of Ohio (now the University of Toledo). She has a graduate certificate in gerontology. She has worked for 10 years at Aultman.

Amber Gotschall, OTR/L
Amber received her associate degree for occupational therapy assisting from Stark State University. She then received her master’s of science degree in occupational therapy from the University of Findlay.  Amber has worked at Aultman for 15 years.
