Grief Services

Aultman offers a variety of services to our hospice and palliative care families.

Many people are able to work through grief with the support of family, friends and faith communities. Others may need the help of support groups or individual counseling.

Our goal is not to help you “get over your grief” but to assist in easing your pain and managing your loss. We are available to meet with you to develop a plan to meet your specific needs.

Grief Resources: Individual and Group Support

The hospice and palliative care bereavement program offers follow-up immediately after the death of a loved one through periodic phone calls, cards and home visits, if needed, to families in the program.

We also offer a variety of support groups, available to the community at no charge, for adults who are coping with the loss of a loved one. Our experts are here to help you understand grief and give you tools to cope with your grief and journey toward healing.

Most groups meet at the Aultman Women’s Board Compassionate Care Center located on the Aultman Woodlawn campus. Please call 330-479-7450 or email monica.zimmerman-miller@aultman.com to learn more or register for a group.

Available support includes the following.

  • Individual support: One-to-one bereavement support sessions.

  • Grief 101: A six-week series offered four times per year for those who have recently lost a loved one. It provides an opportunity to learn about grief and explore ways to cope.

  • Men’s support group: The Compassionate Care Center hosts a men’s breakfast, led by one of our chaplains, on the third Monday every month at 8:30 a.m.

  • An annual memorial service to honor and remember your loved one.

  • An annual holiday seminar: This program helps those who are grieving face the difficult weeks ahead.

Education

The Aultman Grief Services staff is available to speak free of charge at local schools, clubs, organizations, churches, synagogues and workplaces.
