Volunteer Spotlight: Robert Miller
At Aultman, our volunteers are just one of the many groups that have helped us to lead our community to improved health over the last 125 years. Today, we'd like to introduce you to one of our dedicated volunteers – Robert Miller
Where do you live?
I have lived in Canton for all 73 years of my life.
When did you begin volunteering at Aultman Health Foundation?
I began volunteering about two years ago.
In what department do you volunteer?
I volunteer every Tuesday in the Valet department.
How did you decide to be a volunteer?
After I retired from Liquid Control, I realized I didn’t want to sit around my house every day. I figured if I was at home, my wife would keep adding to my “honey-do” list, so volunteering sounded like a great idea!
What do you like best about volunteering?
I enjoy meeting new people and talking to the employees and visitors. Sometimes, I’ll run into a buddy from high school or joke around with one of the regular hospital visitors. I’m always willing to listen when a visitor wants to share their reasons for their visit to Aultman.
What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of volunteering?
When I’m not volunteering, I enjoy doing yard work and spending time with my dog. One of my interests is softball. After high school, I played in city leagues for 60 years, won many championships and was eventually inducted into the Canton Amateur Hall of Fame.
Tell us about your loved ones (parents, spouse, children, grandchildren).
I am married to my wife, Myra, and we share our home with our dog, Sadie. I have one son and two step-sons. My two grandchildren, who live in Medina, are athletic – just like their grandpa!
Tell us something interesting about yourself that many of your friends may not know.
I am still very close to my two brothers and sister. We spend time together on a weekly basis either on the phone, meeting for breakfast or cooking out. I visit my sister often – I like to bum my coffee off of her.
