At Aultman, our volunteers are just one of the many groups that have helped us to lead our community to improved health. Today, we'd like to introduce you to one of our dedicated volunteers - Norma Frey.

Where do you live (city/area)?

I have lived in the Canton area my entire life, and I’m a graduate of the former Lincoln High School.

When did you begin volunteering at Aultman Health Foundation?

I began volunteering at Aultman a little less than two years ago.

In what department do you volunteer?

I volunteer at Aultman every Friday. In the mornings, I work in Radiology assisting patients, stocking supplies, retrieving wheelchairs and helping the staff however I can. In the afternoons, I take the hospitality cart to the Infusion Center and Cancer Center to serve refreshments to our guests.

How did you decide to be a volunteer?

I am a cancer survivor and I had my treatments at Aultman. I just wanted to give back.

What do you like best about volunteering?

The people. They give me so much. I give to them, yet it seems to come back double. All you hear on the news is bad, but there are so many wonderful people in the world, so I choose to dwell on that. I enjoy knowing I make a difference.

What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of volunteering?

When I’m not volunteering at Aultman, you can find me volunteering at a soup kitchen in downtown Canton, ushering at my church, walking my dog or doing yardwork. I also keep busy doing water aerobics four days a week.

Tell us about your loved ones (parents, spouse, children, grandchildren).

I have a daughter, Brenda, who is currently living with me. I have five siblings – a brother who is deceased and four sisters. Two of my sisters live in the Canton area, one lives in Mansfield and the other in Texas. And I can’t forget my dog, Bo, a Jack Russell terrier mix.

Tell us something interesting about yourself that many of your friends may not know.

I just got back from my very first cruise in March. I went to the Caribbean with six of my girlfriends.
