Volunteer Spotlight: Carol Misko
At Aultman, our volunteers are just one of the many groups that have helped us to lead our community to improved health. Today, we'd like to introduce you to one of our dedicated volunteers - Carol Misko.
Where do you live (city/area)?
I have lived in the city of Canton my entire life.
When did you begin volunteering at Aultman Health Foundation?
I began volunteering at Aultman about three years ago.
In what department do you volunteer?
I work in Infusion Therapy on Tuesday and Friday mornings. I spend a lot of time with patients – getting them drinks, ordering and delivering their lunches.
How did you decide to be a volunteer?
I had worked for 20 years at Amster-Kirtz, and after retiring, I realized I had too much extra time on my hands. My daughter urged me to look into volunteering. When I heard that there was a volunteer opportunity available in Infusion Therapy at Aultman, I was so excited! As a lung cancer survivor, I had spent many hours in that department and wanted to give back.
What do you like best about volunteering?
Definitely the people – the patients and “my girls.” When I was going through treatment, the girls working on the unit meant so much to me. Now, I get to work alongside them.
What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of volunteering?
I enjoy working in the yard and crocheting.
Tell us about your loved ones.
I have a daughter named Debbie, my son-in-law Keith and two grandchildren – Sarah and Jarad.
Tell us something interesting about yourself that many of your friends may not know.
I was diagnosed with lung cancer over 15 years ago, and I’m living cancer free!
