Volunteer Spotlight: Ayla DeGuzis
At Aultman, it takes a team to lead our community to improved health. Today, we'd like to introduce you to one of our dedicated volunteers – Ayla DeGuzis.
Where do you live (city/area)?
I live in Canal Fulton, and I attend Northwest High School. I am also a full-time CCP student at Kent State.
When did you begin volunteering at Aultman Health Foundation?
This is my second year volunteering at Aultman.
In what department do you volunteer?
I volunteer in the Wound Care Center every Tuesday throughout the summer. My job is behind the scenes – scanning documents, filing and computer work.
How did you decide to be a volunteer?
My mom is an Aultman employee, and she encouraged me to volunteer. I hesitated, but I decided to try it out. Now, I love being here because I enjoy serving others. I’ve also learned a lot about hospital careers. I plan to major in kinesiology and pursue a career in the orthopedic field – probably occupational therapy.
What do you like best about volunteering?
Even though my job is behind the scenes, I have learned so much about the purpose of the Wound Care unit. It has been eye opening to learn about all types of illnesses.
What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of volunteering?
I am a full-time competitive dancer with Candy Apple Dance Center. I’m very involved in my high school. I participate in cheerleading, National Honor Society, Teen Institute and Interact (students getting involved in service in our community), Pep Club and school musicals.
Tell us about your loved ones.
My mom is Anne. and she works here at Aultman Hospital. I have two older brothers – Calvin and Nasir. My brother, Nasir, is graduating next year from John Carroll and plans on attending law school at Case Western University.
Tell us something interesting about yourself that many of your friends may not know.
I have the periodic table memorized!
