Grateful Patient Story: Bobbi Schauer
Bobbi Schauer believes that a little light can go a long way. She let her light shine throughout the years by volunteering for local organizations including the Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival and the American Heart Association. Even now, facing chronic health challenges, Bobbi feels compelled to share her story to provide light and hope to others enduring their own medical hardships.
Several years ago, Bobbi sustained a back injury from a car accident. Several incidents caused the injury to intensify, including a second car accident where Bobbi’s car was T-boned into her driveway. After three back surgeries, Bobbi was still experiencing severe pain. This led her to Aultman Pain Management.
Bobbi was nervous to start treatment, but she said that the warmth she received from her care team helped her move past her fear. “The staff members genuinely care and show honest interest in what you’re going through. They are not only doing their job, but also going above and beyond. They talk with you while you’re here and help you with the hard thing you’re about to do.”
During a recent visit, Bobbi and her nurse chatted about their upcoming travel plans. Bobbi enjoys organizing trips for her and her husband, so the conversation helped her relax while receiving her injection. Although she often sees different nurses during her visits, she said the common denominator is that they are kind and professional.
“When I ask my providers, ‘Do you like it here?’ They say, ‘Oh, I love it’,” Bobbi said. “The fact that they enjoy their work environment and all get along provides better service. It’s a trickle effect. I’ve always had a good experience.”
Bobbi recognizes that no one wants to live with chronic pain that leads to pain management. But what makes a difference for her is having a care team that is dedicated to her long-term journey and shows her kindness throughout the ups and downs. Bobbi is grateful for the physician she sees, Amgad N. Labib-Takla, M.D., anesthesiologist. She said his vivacious and magnetic personality is refreshing; if a treatment doesn’t work, he figures out what they can try next.
If others are living with chronic pain, Bobbi encourages them to go see the wonderful team at Aultman Pain Management. She wants others to know that help is available, and they don’t have to suffer alone. “I wanted to shed positive light on chronic pain. Even though I’m still living with pain, because of the success I’ve had, I believe others will see hope in it.”
