Aultman Weight Management Patient of the Month: Patti Hamilton
Are you struggling with losing weight? You are not alone. Today, we’d like to introduce Patti Hamilton, Aultman Weight Management’s Patient of the Month.
Which Aultman Weight Management program did you participate in?
In April 2021, I began the New Direction program. I made it to my goal weight in March 2022.
How much weight have you lost?
I lost between 90 – 92 lbs. My goal was 145 – 149, and I average around 147.
What made you decide to begin this weight loss journey?
Some of the reasons I decided to make this journey were because it hurt my knees to go up and down stairs. I also generally felt like I had no energy to do anything. I live alone by choice and I wanted to make sure I could do things for myself for as long as I can and not have to depend on my kids.
What has been your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?
I retired from my job three years ago after 42 years of service, and the cost of the program was a bit challenging on a limited income. On the New Direction program, you are no longer buying food, so it does make it easier to afford. But let’s be real. I couldn’t afford NOT to do the program and be in better health so I can meet the daily demands.
What’s your favorite part about your experience at Aultman Weight Management?
I would have to say that all the people that work there, dietitians, etc., all want you to succeed. I feel like they are my own personal cheerleaders. Sometimes, that’s what you need to keep you on track and stay motivated.
What advice do you have to those thinking about joining the program?
My advice is “just do it!” It works! Plus, you learn so much from the dietitians. I never really knew how to eat right. Now, I feel that I do. The program teaches you how wonderful eating healthy food really is.
What words of wisdom do you have for anyone currently going through a weight loss journey?
Tape that “before” picture on your fridge to stay motivated. Nothing is better than feeling healthy and good about yourself. Do whatever it takes that motivates you; whether that’s a new top or outfit for each 10- or 20-pound loss. Everyone is different, so only you know what kicks your motivation in gear. Lastly, be easy on yourself. You’ll get there. Keep your eye on the prize.
Congratulations, Patti!
