The Power of Nutrition
March is National Nutrition Month. This annual observance encourages us to make informed food choices and promotes the goals of healthy eating and exercise.
For 2026, the theme is “Discover the Power of Nutrition.” The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics reminds us that nutrition has the power to help us thrive. Learning about healthy food and beverage options, along with building healthy daily habits, will make us all feel great – not just now, but in the future, too! Here are some things to keep in mind as we celebrate the month:
- Good nutrition can power your day. Make healthy food choices from all food groups to include a greater variety of nutrients. Avoid fad diets that have unnecessary restrictions.
- Find advice that is backed by science. Make sure the sources you are using for nutrition information are reliable and accurate. You may even consider meeting with a registered dietitian nutritionist to receive personalized information for your own unique needs and goals.
- Stay nourished on any budget. Work with the resources you have and learn cooking skills to support them. Incorporate food from seasonal farmers’ markets and other local community resources into meal planning.
- Practice healthy habits to feel good. Plan your meals in advance to reduce stress. Prepare food safely at home to reduce the risk of foodborne illness. Include physical activity daily in ways that work for you and your lifestyle.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics website is a great resource that is available to help promote and spread the message of good nutrition and health. There are lots of tip sheets and handouts available. You can also find some delicious recipes and watch some great videos! Check out the nutrition month page for more.
