Mens Health Month Weight Lifting
06/16/2023

Stay Healthy, Man!

June is National Men’s Health Month. It’s the perfect time to remind the guys in your life to make their health a priority! There are many simple steps that men can take every day to improve personal health and safety. The CDC has offered the following easy tips toward better health:

  • Get some sleep! Insufficient sleep is linked to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity and depression. Be sure you are getting between seven and eight hours of sleep each night.
  • Toss the tobacco! Lower your risk of heart disease, cancer and lung disease. It’s never too late to quit smoking – it has immediate and long-term health benefits. Don’t forget that inhaling the secondhand smoke of others can cause health problems, too.
  • Move, move, move! All adults should be getting at least two and a half hours of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week. In addition, muscle strengthening activities should be done two or more days each week. Spread your activity throughout the week to make it easier.
  • Eat healthier! This means including a variety of fruits and vegetables each and every day. In addition, limit those foods (and drinks) that are high in calories, sugar, fat, salt and alcohol.
  • Less stress! Too much stress makes you feel overwhelmed and out of control. Find support, connect socially and stay active to make sure you are taking care of yourself.
  • Pay attention (to yourself)! Be sure to pay attention to any signs or symptoms that seem out of the ordinary. If you have chest pain, shortness of breath, excessive thirst and/or problems with urination, don’t wait! Let your doctor know as soon as possible.
  • Know your numbers! Keep track of your blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol and body mass index (BMI). Work with your doctor to learn what your numbers should be and how to improve them if necessary.
  • Get vaccinated! You may have had your vaccines as a child, but immunity can fade with time. No matter how old you are, you need immunizations to stay healthy. Ask your doctor if they have any recommendations for new vaccinations.
