Post Injury: Do I Need Physical Therapy?
The sun is shining, the park is calling and just when you’re out to have fun in the sun, you get injured. Although you know our Aultman outpatient facilities are available to help set you on the path to healing from all your unexpected strains, sprains, bruises and bumps, after a serious injury, it can take more than just a quick trip to Immediate Care to get you back on your feet.
With personalized attention, a physical therapy program can help a patient return to his or her prior level of functioning. Physical therapists are movement experts and assist their patients to achieve optimal mobility and function on the road to recovery from injuries and illnesses that impair physical performance. Often this process involves mobility training, stretching and strengthening to maximize independence with daily movements like walking.
Though physical therapy can come in handy AFTER an injury or surgery, visiting with a physical therapist can also help to prevent certain ailments from occurring. For example, physical therapy can help to:
Reduce Pain. Therapeutic exercises and manual therapy techniques can help relieve pain and restore muscle and joint function.
Avoid Surgery. If exercises performed in physical therapy can help a patient to eliminate pain and heal from an injury, corrective surgery may no longer be necessary.
Improve Mobility. Stretching and strengthening exercises can help restore your ability to move.
Prevent Falls. Therapists can help patients with exercises that carefully and safely challenge balance and improve coordination to increase strength and improve confidence in real world situations.
Physical, occupational and speech therapies are available to meet a range of needs at various Aultman facilities, including:
Aultman Carrollton
Aultman Louisville
Aultman North
Aultman West
