Aultman Generations
08/21/2024

Join the Fun With Aultman Generations

With autumn just around the corner, Aultman Generations has planned a full slate of events that will help you stay active and connect with others even as the weather turns cold.

Designed for community members ages 50 and older, Generations helps you stay healthy through activities, sports leagues and educational programs. According to the National Institute on Aging, getting the right amount of exercise and taking care of our mental health are among the factors that influence healthy aging.

“The goal of Aultman Generations is to help people remain physically, mentally and socially active,” said Aultman’s Joy Burch, who leads the program. “Connecting with others is beneficial to our health, and Generations events are designed to appeal to a wide variety of interests.”

Here’s a sampling of upcoming events for the remainder of 2024. Reserve your spot for each event by calling 330-363-6262.

  • Canton Food Tour. If you love great food, lively conversation and local history, the Canton Food Tour with Aultman Generations is perfect for you. Beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, this walk through the heart of the city – led by local guides from Explore City Tours – features numerous points of interest and curated small plates at popular restaurants. It costs $79 per person. Reserve your spot by Aug. 30.

  • Fall Bowling League at Park Centre Lanes in North Canton. If you’re looking for an indoor sport, bowling could be right up your alley! The Aultman Generations fall bowling league meets at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays from Sept. 17 through Nov. 19 at Park Centre Lanes in North Canton. If you’d like to be a part of this nonsanctioned, short-season league, make plans to attend the organizational meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10. It costs $9 per week.

  • Senior Sing. This group is for all seniors who want to meet new friends, laugh a little and sing a lot. Senior Sing, a partnership with Sing Stark, rehearses weekly at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays from Sept. 11 through Dec. 4 in the North Canton Medical Center Community Room. The season culminates with a holiday concert at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, in the Bedford lobby of Aultman Hospital.

  • Senior Shield: Safeguarding Against Fraud. Older adults lose billions of dollars annually to scams and fraud. This FREE program, led by Detective Danielle Paciorek of the Perry Township Police Department, will help you learn how to protect yourself against scams. It will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, in the North Canton Medical Center Community Room. Reservations are required.

  • Cooking Demo: Fabulous Fall Squash. Held from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Oct. 3, in the North Canton Medical Center Community Room, this session will show you how to add appealing fall squash to your diet. Samples are included. The cost is $5 per person. Make your reservation by Sept. 23.

  • Winter Wonderland, a one-day bus trip on Thursday, Dec. 5. The Generations group will travel to Memories of Christmas Past at the Arms Family Museum in Youngstown, then enjoy an early dinner at Pittsburgh’s iconic Union Station. The trip concludes with beautiful lights and holiday displays at Phipps Conservatory. The cost is $168 per person. Reservations are due Nov. 5.

Additional Aultman Generations events this fall include the Retiree Expo, an AARP safe driving course, a holiday craft, group tickets to The Queens of Country at Amish Country Theater and a trip to see the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Music Center.

Membership in Aultman Generations is free. For more information about the program and to join the group, visit aultman.org/Generations. You’ll find a complete list of activities from August to December 2024 under the Upcoming Events tab.
