Get Caught Reading Month
The temperatures are warming up and summer is quickly approaching. Whether your plans include a family vacation to the beach, endless naps in the backyard hammock or spending time at your local park – this summer is a great time to grab a book and get lost in an adventure.
May is Get Caught Reading Month, a nationwide campaign to remind people of all ages how much fun it is to read. In celebration, here are a few ideas to get you and your family’s noses in a good book throughout the summer.
Choose a trilogy/series. Starting a book that is part of a trilogy encourages continued reading throughout the summer months and eliminates the hunt for “the next good book.”
Books by the same author. Find an author you really enjoy and challenge yourself to read as many of their books as you can by summer’s end.
Audiobooks/online books. Audiobooks are a creative way to enjoy a book with the entire family. Since they are mobile, you can listen in the car, while you’re fixing dinner or while doing chores. The family can be immersed in a story at the same time, regardless of reading levels.
Books to movies. A great incentive for reading a book could be the promise of watching the movie version after you’ve read it. It’s always fun to analyze the differences and discuss how a musical score, characterization and your imagination can affect your perception of the story.
