Aultman Serenity Program Receives Award

Serenity Goodwill AwardRecovering from domestic violence or sexual assault is a complicated, emotional process, and Aultman’s Serenity program offers a compassionate, nonjudgmental, trauma-informed approach to provide care for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

As a testament to the success of this program, Serenity recently received an award from Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio. Nominated by Molly MacMath from Goodwill affiliate COMPASS, Serenity was selected as the Collaborative Partner of the Year for the collective work that COMPASS and Serenity are doing within the hospital and in the community to offer educational opportunities and awareness training related to sexual assault and domestic violence. Learn more about this award in the Facebook video.

Any time or anywhere, anyone can be impacted by violence. Serenity is designed to ensure that patients receive prompt treatment by nurses who have specialized forensic training. They care for individuals impacted by sexual or domestic violence, child abuse and human trafficking in a safe, confidential environment. The specially trained nurses serve survivors with empathy, compassion, respect and encouragement while building trust and restoring hope to move forward in the journey of healing.

Originally established as a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) program in 2003, Aultman recognized the increase in domestic violence-related incidents and renamed the program “Serenity” in 2017 to include services to survivors of domestic violence.

Serenity nurses are available 24 hours a day and they provide one-on-one care for their patients at Aultman Hospital, Aultman Orrville Hospital and Aultman Massillon.

Aultman Serenity nurses are available to provide community education related to the program, forensic medical services, sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking, non-fatal strangulation and other related topics. For more information, call 330-363-0669.

Thank you to our Serenity staff members. You are making a difference in the lives of our patients and in our community.
