Lena was born in Tirana, Albania, but has lived most of her life in Arlington Heights, a northwest suburb of Chicago. She completed her undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt University, followed by a master's degree from Georgetown University. She later earned her medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria.
Lena is a former collegiate athlete who now enjoys running marathons. She has completed all six world marathon majors and multiple Boston marathons. Her other hobbies include international travel, learning foreign languages, coffee, yoga and being outdoors. Within orthopedics, she is interested in orthopedic trauma, specifically pelvic ring injuries, acetabulum fractures and deformity.
