Aultman Hospital Earns Multiple Joint Commission ‘Gold Seal of Approval’ Certifications in Total Hip and Knee Replacement

CANTON, Ohio (Oct. 5, 2017) — Aultman Hospital recently earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® Disease Specific Care Certification for Total Hip Replacement and Total Knee Replacement, recognizing the hospital’s ability to provide an extremely high level of care to those in need of these procedures.

To earn this prestigious Joint Commission certification, which is a symbol of high-quality care and a commitment to providing safe and effective patient care, Aultman underwent a rigorous on-site review in which Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with national disease-specific care standards, as well as with hip- and knee-specific requirements. The Joint Commission also assessed guidelines and performance measures.

“Hip and knee replacement procedures are extremely important to patients, as they often give patients years of their lives back in terms of mobility, and this certification is proof that great orthopaedic care is within reach for people in Stark and the surrounding counties right here at Aultman,” said Dr. Anthony Pentz, orthopedic surgeon and CEO of OMNI Orthopaedics.

Aultman was able to achieve this award through the combined effort of several different departments. This interdisciplinary team included professionals from pre-testing, same-day surgery, anesthesia, surgery, post-anesthesia care, inpatient orthopaedics, therapy services and many more.

Established in 2002 and awarded for a two-year period, The Joint Commission’s Certification evaluates clinical programs across the continuum of care and addresses three core areas:

  • Compliance with consensus-based national standards.
  • Effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care.
  • An organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.

"Aultman Hospital has thoroughly demonstrated a high level of care for patients receiving total hip or total knee replacements,” said Patrick Phelan, executive director, Hospital Business Development, The Joint Commission. “We commend Aultman for becoming a leader in orthopaedic care, potentially providing a higher standard of service for patients in its community.”
