2018 Cancer Screening 4x6 PC 1
04/11/2018

Aultman Cancer Center Offers Free Screenings

CANTON, Ohio (April 11, 2018) – The Aultman Cancer Center’s 17th Annual Cancer Screening Day provides free cancer screenings to uninsured and underinsured members of the community. The event will be held Saturday, April 21, from 8 a.m. to noon at Aultman Hospital.

Free cancer screening options will include breast, cervical, colon, lung, prostate and skin. Appointments are required for all screenings. Aultman Hospital follows nationally recommended screening guidelines for all screening events. Please call 330-363-6011 to register. Participants will be asked questions to determine if they meet screening eligibility guidelines when they schedule an appointment.

The Aultman Cancer Center encourages people with a family history of cancer or those who have never been screened to take advantage of the free cancer screenings.

Cancer Screening Day will also offer educational materials that teach the signs and symptoms of cancer, as well as important screening guidelines for men and women as they age. Women 40 and older should have annual mammograms, and men 50 and older should discuss risk factors with a doctor to consider prostate cancer screening. African-American men and any man who has other men in his family with prostate cancer should consider prostate screening sooner at age 45. People ages 55-74 who are current smokers or have quit less than 15 years ago should talk to a doctor about lung cancer screening.

This 17th annual event is just one way Aultman employees and local physicians – who volunteer their time for this endeavor – are committed to cancer education and prevention.

Remember: The best cancer prevention is to live a healthy lifestyle. To reduce the risk of cancer, follow these tips:

  • Don’t use tobacco products.
  • Limit your time in the sun, and always use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher.
  • Lead a physically active life.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
