About Sharon Lane



Sharon Lane was born in Zanesville, Ohio, in 1943.

She graduated from the Aultman Hospital School of Nursing in 1965. A lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, Sharon was killed June 8, 1969. She was the first and only American servicewoman to die as a direct result of enemy fire in Vietnam.

A statue in the Aultman Hospital courtyard commemorates Sharon and her contributions.
