Aultman Brings "The Farmer and the WOW" to Canton Farmers' Market
July 19, 2012
CANTON, Ohio (July 19, 2012) — Aultman Hospital is bringing “The Farmer and the WOW” to the Canton Farmers’ Market to promote healthy eating habits.
Starting Saturday, July 21, the Aultman WOW van will be a regular addition to the Canton Farmers’ Market with their “Farmer and the WOW” program. Each Saturday, WOW nurses will provide free blood pressure, weight and BMI screenings, in addition to health education for both children and adults. The education will revolve around the new MyPlate initiative, which encourages individuals to fill half their plates with fruits and vegetables.
All adult participants who take part in the free health screenings, as well as children who obtain the education will receive a free piece of fruit, a vegetable or a fruit smoothie! Participants can return each week to receive the screenings and their choice of a free produce item!
Arrowhead Orchards will provide the fruit and the vegetables will be provided by Maize Valley Market and Winery. The smoothies, which will be available on a limited basis, are provided by Chef Adrienne Chavers, certified raw food chef of “It’s RAW-licious.”
This Saturday, Aultman dietitians will be on hand to answer questions and hand out free MyPlate placemats from 8:30-10:30 a.m. In addition, Aultman Immediate Care mascot Freddie LeFever will make a special appearance!
Aultman Pediatrician Mike McCabe, M.D., has also joined in the fun. He wrote a new version of the classic children’s tune, “The Farmer and the Dell.” This Saturday, McCabe will debut his new song, “The Farmer and the WOW” during a live performance at 9 a.m. For more information on the “Farmer and the WOW” program, please call 330-363-3381.
