Aultman is taking part in exciting projects to meet our mission to improve the health of our community. We have a vision to make Stark County a healthier county by 2020. Our 2011 areas of focus are smoking and obesity.

Health Rankings
In 2010, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation sponsored a team from the University of Wisconsin to give every county in America a health ranking. The rankings use a variety of factors to get each county’s score including:

  • Premature death
  • Low birth weight
  • Health behaviors: diet and exercise, smoking, alcohol use and more
  • Social and economic factors: high school graduation, unemployment, homicide rate and others

The 2011 “County Health Rankings” used state and national data collected between 2001 and 2009. Out of the 88 Ohio counties, Stark ranked 37 in health factors and 44 in health outcomes.

County-wide Healthy Lifestyles Initiative
In addition to our Health Vision 2020 efforts, Aultman is part of a county-wide committee called the “Healthy Lifestyles Initiative.” This group includes members from the Stark County Health Department, area hospitals, Stark Parks, YMCAs, local schools, universities and more. The committee's goal is to improve our community’s health, with subcommittees focusing on access to healthy foods, promoting more physical activity, decreasing tobacco use and reducing substance abuse in Stark County.
